Brominated polystyrene (BPS) is a bromine-based organic flame retardant with good mechanical and chemical properties such as high flame retardancy, thermal stability and light stability. It is widely used in polybutylene terephthalate. Engineering plastics such as glycol ester, polyethylene terephthalate, polyphenylene ether, nylon-66.

Brominated polystyrene is mainly used in thermoplastic resins such as PA, PBT, PET, etc., and the use process needs to be used in combination with a telluride. In the case of flame retardant polyester, the addition amount of 10% (enhanced) to 17% (non-reinforced) can be imparted to the material UL94V-O grade (0.8mm). When the flame retardant polyamide is added, the addition amount can be given at 21%. Material UL94V-O grade (0.8mm).

Brominated polystyrene is made of polystyrene and is brominated. It is mainly used as a flame retardant in engineering plastics. Because polystyrene (PS) is an engineering plastic, it determines BPS and engineering plastics. Good compatibility. It has the least influence on the mechanical properties of the material and can maintain more than 90% of the mechanical properties. BPS is a macromolecular flame retardant, which has good compatibility with the substrate, does not precipitate, does not migrate, and has no anti-static ability on the surface.

Brominated polystyrene is a white or light yellow powder or granule with a bromine content of about 68%. The thermal decomposition temperature is greater than 330 ° C, has a large molecular weight, good thermal stability, good dispersibility and miscibility in the polymer, easy processing, no frost and the like.

Brominated polystyrene is named brominated polystyrene and polybrominated styrene according to its synthetic route. It can be seen from the naming that brominated polystyrene is brominated by polystyrene; polybromo Styrene is obtained by first performing olefinic protection of styrene, followed by bromination, recovery of the olefinic bond, synthesis of brominated styrene, and polymerization again.

Whether the solvent is used in the synthesis process or not, it can be divided into a solvent method and a non-solvent method. Since the solvent method consumes less bromine, it is usually synthesized by a solvent method.

Brominated polystyrene (BPS) is an internationally recognized environmentally friendly flame retardant that does not contain polybrominated diphenyl ethers and polybrominated biphenyls and is ROHS compliant. It has the advantages of good compatibility with materials, no precipitation, no frost, good electrical properties, little influence on mechanical properties of materials, and low price.
